| Your new birdie is so cute...such beautiful colors! There's always room for one more at Sherry's zoo, right? LOL Next to turtles, birds are my favorite animals. I've always wanted a singing canary. Maybe someday..... | |

| They eat almost any fruit and a good selection of veggies. No apple seeds no avacoto no chocklate. They will even eat french fries but it being an oil base bird you have to watch the oily food.Just about what ever you feed your boxies they can also eat. They get most of their essential oils from the seeds they eat. A good vitamin block for calcium.I give all my birds vitimins in their water bottles. It might not like citrus but thats good cause they don't get too much in the wild. All tropical fruits papaya passion fruit grapes are good.some even like raisons but mine dont.A good misting once a week is cool for the feathers. The perches you have are the best as it will help trim those nasty needletoes parrots get.If your luck and there is no reason you wont be he/she will wipe its beak on the perch and thet helps with the sharp beak. You should not trim thje beak too much as they need that to have a little edge for eating. An extreamly playful parrot. Needs at least 1 hour of good play time out of its cage. Not to worry I am sending you a play pen for him/her. Rember that the more you interact and play the more you can teach it. They love to play on their back and hold small like plastic play ball with thei feet. They will face surf. That just means they like to hold towels wash cloths in their beak and it looks like their surfing on their face. You can teach these birds to do many many tricks.Just take your time. They are very smart and sometimes will try to bully you for attention. Don't over do cause if it becomes a a habit it can be rather a pain when you don't have time.It costs around $20.00 to have it DNA sexed. Either with feathers plucked from the chest area'be careful not to touch the feather folical, or with a small blood sample taken from a toe trimm.. You can get a kit from labs and mail it off your self or the vet can do it. I don't know what a Vet would charge but I wouldn't pay more than $20.00 cause You can do it your self. You should be able to touch the bird every where on its body, comes in handi if there are any injuries or wing clipping . You Should be able to clpi its wings your self. But a vet will do it . We trim our birds ourselves. A good trim is even on all sides as you don't want an unbalanced wing, sometimes called suicide cut. Rember that they can be startled and at times fall or jump, you want the bird to be able to have a slow crash if it tries to fly. Yu got a real beautiful bird and should get years of fun and loveing with him/her. It won't really react to a name. you just have to see its charicteristics to find a name to fit. After a while it will know its name. They are not the best talkers but are great whistlers and can be quite loud at times. If you have a fire alarm in your house it will imitate it to perfectio. Thats not too good as I know people that lived in Apts. and had to get rid of a bird cause of th neighbors. Renforct the good avoid the bad and you should do OK. Rember if you cook wuth teflon pots and pans to keep it away as the fumes from an overheated teflon pan will, will, will kill it.I guess thats about all I can think of. Any more ?'s just ask. I have raised and taken care of ALL types of birds for over 40 years. I have seen it all. Good find there Sherry. You and Wayne sure got a keeper. |
