while cleaning his tank everything went to smooth well low and behold i went to fill his tank up with water and this is what i found his skin come off and wam now his belly looks real bad and im not sure how i should go about treating him becouse he is a very mean turtle and hes big anuff to hurt you if messed with to much

he can not live out of the water to long at all he has to have it thats the biggest problem if hes out of water to long he drys up like a prune

thanks everyone for your help his tanks being striped down fully again and i did find some one who knew what was wrong with him it was a form of shell rot witch was healing on its own and hes just riped off old dead stuff so now im going to get his tank redone and add abit of stuff in to keep him from getting it back or an infection happening

If you cover his head with a dark colored hand towel, would that be enough to calm him? I agree that the anti biotic ointment would be a good idea...even if it is healing. That stuff sticks great in water. When I was treating Larry for a shell infection, I had to rub the ointment off with a cloth before I could do a new treatment. There's very little oil spots floating on the water, so it mostly adheres. Also, how about burn cream? I'd use both.
I hope it heals fast. : )

Aww, poor Flipper! That looks like it's so sore. I'm glad you found out what the problem was. Hope it heals up OK, and that you still have all your fingers when you're finished treating him!

welp i still got all my fingers i used a really thick towl had to fold it to make it real thick to get ahold of him boy he put up one heck of a fight and had one very nasty tude he clamped down on the towel with a death grip and was trying to kill it he was more ticked off then hes ever ben but i rasseled him and won hehehehee all it did for him is really tick him off more lol ive gotten evil looks all day from him hes such a snot ball lol

Flipper's lucky that he has an owner who isn't intimidated by him and will do what needs to be done in spite of his ornery disposition. If only he understood that you're just trying to help him!

oh im sure he understands but its his nature to be so mean i would never recammend anyone trying to own a florida soft shell they get huge they naturaly have bad tudes and they are hard to care for they are prone to getting infections very easy and can get very costly to keep. nessy isnt as bad as flipper but he will bite if backed into a corner most times he rather run away but flipper hes more the type to come at you and clamp down like a snapper

i got the acriflavine today and started the treatment tonight man this stuff is neon yellow and stains everything and on a good note flipper doesnt look as red anymore and i think the neosporin musta helped becouse it does look so much better today oh yeah i treating nessy to just in case

the water is green from the meds flipper is as big around as a 10 gallon bucket and nessy is about 1 inch shorter around then flipper ive never ben able to measer them due to the bad tudes but he fights tight in a 10 gallon bucket they dont weight much of anything tho maybe 2 pounds if that but they are big boys
