Bird peeps... ever use baby wipes on your cages? PLEASE DON'T! A friend just got a necropsy report back on her beloved 'too and the wipes are thought to have been implicated. We can ALL learn from this...

"Using baby wipes to clean cages? This is an snip from a digest post. I'm never using them for cages again. I usually dust the top of cages with them. No more.

Hi xxxx - got xxxx's necropsy report today. The diagnosis was "moderate to severe acute interstitial nephritis and renal tubular epithelial necrosis (nephrosis). " Under comments it says "Some potential etiologies of acute renal tubular necrosis include endotoxic shock, the hypoxia of cardiovascular collapse, and nephrotoxins. " There was no sign of virus or bacteria so the vet is leaning heavily towards some toxin. My best guess is the Pampers hypoallergenic, sensitive skin wipes. I've been using them primarily for cleaning the grates because they don't fall apart easily, but a few days before xxxxx got sick, I'd wiped down the inside of her cage with them. That's the only thing I can think of that I did differently. Unfortunately, they don't list the ingredients on the box, so I went on line and found they contain, among other things, propylene glycol. You can rest assured I won't be making that mistake again. :-( "

I dont remember what I gave you for Purrlyn but that was ok'd by a vet and is used alot down here. I will try to find out what it was called. We just use diluted peroxide and micro cloths. Diluted like they do in dr's offices
