I wasn't joking!
Today I decided was a good day to do some weather simulation. My Haplopelma hainanum, "Sanmei", has a very dry tank. This is to simulate the dry season in her natural habitat. I've been thinking on starting the rainy season for her, and today was the beginning of just that. In the bottom of her custom made habitat (plastic barrel) I drilled some holes. It works just like on the bottom of a plant pot. As I type this out right now, the container is sitting in a bucket of mild temperature water. The water has flooded the bottom of the tank, soaking the substrate. This will convince her that the rainy season has started, and make things a bit more natural for her, plus give her an idea on the when what season is and such.
After her burrow was flooded, she decided it was a good idea to go for a stroll. The down side to this is that the inside of her enclosure is covered with webbing, so many of my photos just didn't work out. I thought about opening the lid, but she was very close to it, and I really didn't like the idea of chasing down a really pissed off psychopathic Chinese tarantula with an eye for vengeance. So, I took out my handy flash light and played with it and the camera with different angles until I got a good shot. The flash light gave me the opportunity to provide lighting from an angle that wouldn't blind the camera. So without more adeiu, or however you spell it, here she is, in all of her glory and my crappy photography

All spread out she should be about 7 inches from front leg to back leg. Thanks, I think she's gorgeous and if I had to choose a favorite, I think she'd be it. I'm not huge on really big spiders, but she is so beautiful, and impressive to look, not to mention the one which probably has earned my respect the most. Moments like this make me happy when I actually can look at her in depth with lots of time to spare

She is very pretty. I'm still trying to convince my wife to let me get A Brazilian black.I had a friend that had a big one and she was very calm and easy to handle, I think she actually liked it. b6

Good species, hard to breed, and a little high in price, but a good one. I want one of those myself
